Vinayaka Chavithi, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm across Prakasam District. The festival honors Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and brings together families, communities, and cultural traditions throughout the towns and villages of the district.
A few days before the festival, colorful clay Ganesha idols appear in local markets of Ongole, Chirala, Kandukur, Markapuram, Addanki, and surrounding areas. On the festival day, households and public mandapas install beautifully decorated idols, offering modakalu, undrallu, fruits, and flowers during special poojas.
Public celebrations are especially lively, with community pandals, devotional songs, cultural programs, and bhajans. Children and youth actively participate in decorating idols and organizing events. Temples across the district hold special rituals, creating a spiritual and festive atmosphere.
The celebrations conclude with Nimajjanam (immersion) of Ganesha idols in lakes, ponds, and rivers across Prakasam. These processions, accompanied by drums, chants, and colorful decorations, symbolize sending Lord Ganesha back to his celestial abode with prayers for prosperity and peace.
Vinayaka Chavithi in Prakasam District blends devotion, cultural unity, and vibrant traditions, making it one of the most cherished festivals in the region.
